Bowmore and Aston Martin have once again joined forces to release what may be their most impressive collaboration to date. The ARC-54, the final chapter in their acclaimed ARC series, is a 54-year-old single malt that balances heritage, precision, and design in extraordinary fashion. Distilled in November 1968, the whisky spent decades maturing in a mix of 2nd Fill European Oak Sherry Butt and 3rd Fill American Oak Hogshead. After more than half a century of aging, Bowmore brought these two elements together in a final 15-month unification – 61.8% from European oak, 38.2% from American – a composition inspired by the Golden Ratio.
The result is a whisky that is as much about artistry as it is about rarity. The nose offers layers of sweet vanilla, buttery shortbread, and soft butterscotch, deepening into notes of tropical mango, peach, and orange zest. Toasted oak, candied walnuts, and a hint of eucalyptus mint follow. On the palate, there’s a rich wave of green apple, bergamot orange, lime juice, salted caramel, spiced ginger, cinnamon, and the unmistakable touch of Islay peat smoke. Bottled at 44.3% ABV, it’s a complex and refined profile that speaks to decades of craftsmanship.
But it’s not just the liquid that turns heads. The ARC-54 arrives in a handblown glass decanter shaped with the curves and motion of Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar. The design aims to look dynamic even when standing still, echoing the sleek aerodynamics of the automotive icon. With only 130 bottles available globally – up slightly from the 100 of the ARC-52 – it remains a highly limited edition. Retailing at £71,000 (around $91,000), this is a whisky for collectors, connoisseurs, and admirers of both design and distillation.
Though it’s not technically Bowmore’s oldest release (a one-off 55-year bottle auctioned for over half a million dollars holds that title), the ARC-54 represents a high point in their collaborative journey with Aston Martin.
