The latest edition of the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 pays homage to both the legendary 1994 Le Mans-winning Porsche 962 and the adrenaline-fueled F.A.T. Ice Race in Austria. Originally founded as a logistics company, F.A.T. International cemented its place in motorsport history by partnering with Porsche to achieve their dream of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Their self-modified Porsche 962 secured victory, leaving a lasting legacy that Porsche continues to honor through its collaborations. Now owned by Porsche, the F.A.T. name is primarily used to promote racing events, including the revived Ice Race, which dates back to 1952 and features daring competitors being towed on skis behind motorcycles and cars.
This new iteration of the Chronograph 1 stands apart with a fully lumed white dial, setting it apart from its traditionally blacked-out predecessors. Coated in Super-LumiNova, the dial emits a striking teal glow in darkness, revealing hidden elements such as the silhouette of the Porsche 962, the car’s name, and a discreet F.A.T. International logo. Matte black hands, indexes, and markings provide sharp contrast against the luminescent background, ensuring easy readability in all lighting conditions. The day-date display features an intriguing detail, replacing the usual “SAT” and “SUN” with “F.A.T.” to reinforce its racing heritage. A closed caseback also bears the F.A.T. International logo, further tying the timepiece to its storied past.
Housed in a 40.8mm glass-bead-blasted titanium case with a black titanium carbide coating, the Chronograph 1 F.A.T. 2025 Edition maintains the rugged elegance that has defined Porsche Design timepieces since the model’s inception in 1972. Inside, it is powered by the COSC-certified WERK 01.240 automatic flyback chronograph movement, operating at a high-beat 4Hz frequency with a 48-hour power reserve. This in-house caliber ensures precise timekeeping and quick reset functionality, making it a fitting choice for motorsport enthusiasts. Complementing the case is a matching black titanium carbide-coated bracelet, accompanied by two additional textile straps: a white Ice Race version with the F.A.T. badge and a striking Mankei Purple textile and leather strap.
Unlike the 2023 F.A.T. Edition, which was produced in a batch of 500, the 2025 Edition is limited to just 136 pieces, making it a highly exclusive collector’s item. Priced at $11,500, this luminous tribute to racing excellence is now available through Porsche Design’s official website. With its bold styling, historical references, and precision engineering, this Chronograph 1 edition captures the spirit of endurance racing while embracing a fresh and innovative aesthetic.
