The Sky-Dweller, a relatively recent addition to Rolex’s collections, debuted in 2012. Designed with global travelers in mind, it features a dual time zone function for tracking time in two distinct zones simultaneously. The collection showcases the Saros annual calendar display, which can distinguish between 30 and 31-day months. Aesthetically, the Sky-Dweller continues to captivate, with new case materials and dials, including black, mint green, and blue-green, as well as a slightly upgraded movement. Additionally, its status as a watch investment has grown over time.
As the most intricate model in Rolex’s repertoire, the Sky-Dweller receives a movement update in 2023. The new calibre 9002, an evolution of the calibre 9001 that has driven Sky-Dwellers since their inception, comes with the Chronergy escapement and an enhanced oscillating weight featuring an optimized ball bearing. It boasts a power reserve of about 72 hours and incorporates Rolex’s patented blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers. These movement features contribute to increased accuracy and resilience against shocks and magnetic fields. The Ring Command system, a hallmark of all Sky-Dwellers, connects the rotating bezel, winding crown, and movement for secure and user-friendly function selection and setting.
The latest white Rolesor Sky-Dweller with a mint green dial features a five-link Oystersteel bracelet, while the Everose and blue-green version comes with a gold Oyster bracelet comprising three-piece solid links. The white gold/black dial model sports an Oysterflex strap made of elastomer.
The Sky-Dweller has emerged as one of Rolex’s most in-demand models, popular among travelers and watch aficionados alike. Its fusion of inventive features and traditional Oyster-inspired design renders it a desirable and indispensable component of Rolex’s lineup, with a variety of options and prices. The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller editions start at CHF 15,100 for the Oystersteel version, while the Everose gold variant is available “upon request.” With such price tag it’ll hardly become one of the most expensive Rolex ever sold.
