As one-offs, the timepieces of the Only Watch charity auction allow watchmakers a chance to flex their creative muscles. That’s certainly the case with Bell & Ross’ BR 01 Cyber Skull Sapphire Only Watch. As the name suggests, the timepiece is built almost entirely from sapphire, including the case, which is machined from three blocks of the material, and the skull dial, which is made from six.
The orange of the angular, gem-like skull sits above the mainplate of its custom BR-CAL.209 movement, created specifically for this watch. Manually wound, it includes an automaton movement that makes the jaw move – as if laughing – when the winding the spring.
