Royal Enfield, a stalwart of the motorcycle world for over 123 years, continues to innovate with the introduction of the Flying Flea, an all-electric motorcycle brand inspired by its WWII-era namesake. The original Flying Flea was renowned for its lightweight design and airdrop capability into war zones. Today, that spirit of agility and accessibility lives on in the Flying Flea’s modern electric motorcycles, the FF-C6 and the scrambler-style S6, designed for the urban rider.
The new Flying Flea models blend historical charm with modern technology. The FF-C6 and S6, set for release in 2026, promise a “retro-futuristic” aesthetic, featuring forged aluminum girder forks and sweeping fenders that nod to classic 1920s and 1930s motorcycles. The design emphasis is on ergonomics and lightweight construction, tailored for short city commutes.
Innovation is at the heart of the Flying Flea brand, with a dedicated team of over 200 engineers in India and the UK. This team has propelled the brand into the future, developing bespoke motors, batteries, and software entirely in-house. The startup already boasts more than 30 patents and plans to manufacture its bikes in Vallam Vadagal, India.
The FF-C6 is particularly designed to be welcoming to new riders while still providing enough power to satisfy seasoned motorcyclists. It features a fully automatic electric powertrain with a twist-and-go throttle, eliminating the need for clutch and gears. Modern touches include smartphone integration as a key, a TFT display, and five ride modes. Safety is enhanced with features like antilock brakes, adjustable power, regenerate braking, and traction control.
The S6 shares its electric powertrain with the FF-C6 but adds scrambler-inspired styling to the lineup. Both bikes offer an impressive array of ride mode combinations, exceeding 200,000 options to tailor power, range, and ride dynamics, controlled via an in-house developed Vehicle Control Unit.
Royal Enfield’s bold move into the electric arena was showcased at EICMA 2024, where the brand emphasized its commitment to combining heritage aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. The Flying Flea is not just a nod to Royal Enfield’s storied past but a forward-looking venture that underscores the brand’s commitment to sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.
