One of the solar panels is hinged, offering easy access to the compartment, which also houses the UL-certified 1.1kWh battery and a 600W onboard charger.
The standout feature of the Lightfoot is its 120W solar panels, which allow the scooter to harness renewable energy. Under ideal sunny conditions, the panels can provide up to 18 miles of range per day, with approximately 3 miles of range added for every hour of charging in direct sunlight. For cloudy days or heavy users, the scooter includes an onboard charger compatible with standard 110v outlets.
Powering the Lightfoot are two 750W brushless DC motors delivering a combined 90Nm of peak torque. This setup enables the scooter to reach a top speed of 20 mph and achieve a range of 37 miles on a full charge. While its ability to handle hilly terrain remains to be fully tested, the specifications suggest it can manage moderate inclines with ease.
The Lightfoot is tailored for daily urban commuting and errands. Its padded seat and footplates ensure comfort for single riders or two passengers. Maintenance is simplified with off-the-shelf components, making repairs accessible at most service centers or garages.
Otherlab backs the Lightfoot with a one-year complete bike guarantee and a two-year mechanical guarantee. They also offer an “ironclad buy-back guarantee” for dissatisfied customers, a rare commitment in the personal transportation market.
Priced at $4,995, the Lightfoot will be available in the United States starting January 2025, with preorders already open. The scooter is expected to debut at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, where its innovative design and features are sure to attract attention.
