Ford is making headlines by entering the competitive ebike market, having partnered with e-mobility company N+ to introduce ebikes inspired by the iconic Mustang and the rugged Bronco SUV. This move follows a series of car manufacturers like BMW, General Motors, and Porsche, who have previously ventured into the ebike realm, often attaching a premium price tag to their products due to the branded association.
Earlier this month, N+ announced a similar partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team to produce a new line of branded ebikes. Ford, having dabbled in ebike concepts back in 2011 and 2015, is making a more committed foray into the market with designs that pay homage to what Ford calls “America’s best-selling sports car” and its adventurous SUV.
The new models, though distinct in styling, share several technical specifications. Both are equipped with a 750-W rear-hub motor that supports pedal assist across four power settings, with top speeds reaching up to 28 mph. A substantial 720-Wh battery provides approximately 60 miles of range per charge, and riders can monitor their stats through a handlebar-mounted color LCD display. These bikes also feature a 9-speed Shimano gearset and are designed to handle various terrains with an air-sprung suspension fork and a rear shock to smooth out the ride.
In terms of aesthetics, the Mustang-inspired model features a race-type saddle and Pirelli Angel Urban GT tires, maintaining a look familiar to eMTB enthusiasts. Conversely, the Bronco model boasts a more unique D-shaped frame and a moto-style seat, equipped with Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M Hardwall tires to tackle more challenging terrains.
Pricing for these premium models starts at $4,000 for the Mustang in its standard gray metallic color. Additional color options, including a race red finish showcased in promotional materials, will cost an extra $390. The Bronco model begins at $4,500 in Area 51 blue, with the same price increase for additional color choices.
Tyler Hill, Ford’s global brand licensing manager, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, noting, “These new ebikes will allow more people to experience the adventurous spirit of a Bronco and the exhilaration of a Mustang from the moment they grip the handlebars.” This venture not only expands Ford’s product line but also taps into the growing trend of automotive-inspired ebikes, promising a blend of performance, style, and a touch of motor-inspired thrill.
