The landscape of adventure motorcycles has been evolving since BMW introduced the R80G/S back in 1980. Recently, the segment has seen a significant surge in popularity, with nearly every major motorcycle brand offering adventure models. Can-Am, a brand with a rich history in off-road vehicles, had been absent from this category until now. The Canadian manufacturer has unveiled two groundbreaking models: the fully-electric Origin ADV bike and the Can-Am Canyon, which is possibly the first-ever three-wheeled adventure motorcycle.
Retaining the familiar reverse trike configuration seen in its Ryker and Spyder models, Can-Am introduces the Canyon, which promises to be the most rugged and capable three-wheeler in its lineup. The Canyon stands out with its enhanced suspension travel and increased ground clearance, tailored for the more demanding off-road adventures.
The Canyon is available in three trim levels:
- The base model Canyon
- The Canyon XT
- The Canyon Redrock, which is the most premium offering
All trims are equipped with a plethora of standard equipment, with the higher tiers adding exclusive amenities and upgraded components.
A powerhouse in the lineup, the Rotax 1330 ACE engine, powers all three variants. This Austrian-built, 1,330cc inline-three engine delivers 115 horsepower and 96 ft-lbs of torque. It is paired with a semi-automatic six-speed transmission that includes a reverse function to simplify parking maneuvers. This setup allows for a towing capacity of 400 pounds, adding to the utility of the adventure trike.
The base Canyon model features KYB Piggyback Smart-Shox suspension with 10.2 inches of travel at the front and a slightly lesser 9.2 inches at the rear. The XT and Redrock trims upgrade to SACHS Big-Bore shocks, maintaining the same travel but offering enhanced performance and damping capabilities.
All trims come equipped with a Brembo braking system featuring four-pot calipers and 270mm discs at the front, along with ABS and an electrically-actuated parking brake. The wheels are fitted with XPS Adventure tires, which are supported by 12-arm rally-inspired aluminum alloy rims.
Standard features across the lineup include:
- LED lighting
- Touring floorboards
- Adaptive foam seats with lumbar support
- An array of adjustable components like footboards and wind deflectors
- A 10.25-inch touchscreen display compatible with BRP Connect and Apple CarPlay
The Canyon also offers a comprehensive suite of tech features such as stability control, traction control, hill hold control, and multiple driving modes to cater to different riding preferences. The Redrock trim additionally includes a backup camera as a standard feature.
While the Can-Am Canyon promises on-road comfort and touring capabilities, its performance on more challenging off-road terrains remains to be seen. The design might not offer the same agility as two-wheeled adventure bikes, particularly on narrow or technical trails. However, Can-Am’s innovative approach to expanding the possibilities of adventure riding is commendable.
The 2025 Can-Am Canyon lineup is set to hit dealerships in the Spring of next year. The pricing is competitive, starting at $25,299 for the base model and escalating to $32,299 for the Canyon Redrock.
With these developments, Can-Am not only diversifies its product range but also redefines what an adventure motorcycle can be, blending traditional elements with modern technology and a bold new format.
